Facing electric bike issues? It’s usual for electric vehicles to go through problems then and now.

Fortunately, these issues are solvable. Let’s see how!

8 Common Electric Bike Problems:

Common E-Bike Problems & How To Solve Them

1. Electric Bike Not Working Adequately

You might have an electric bike that is persistently causing service interruptions. Even if you try everything, it won’t work unless you find the cause. Sometimes troubleshooting the vehicle works wonders, and there are a few ways to do it. Let’s check them out.

2. Check the battery’s charger port.

First off, you’ll need to troubleshoot the battery.  To check the battery’s charger port, unplug the battery chargers from the wall.

Next, plug it in again and check the indicator lights.

It helps if you have a voltmeter to review the battery’s voltage too.

If the battery pack seems to be serving less than 20 minutes, chances are either of these are worn out, and you’ll have to replace them. If you notice that the voltage drop significantly, you’ll have to review the ports, prongs, and overall battery management system to locate the faulty area and replace it.

3. Troubleshoot The Motor

Often the handlebars on your e-bike could be damaged without you even noticing. If you see some cosmetic errors on e-bikes, you can start by fixing the brake levers.

But, if the brakes are functioning adequately, you can replace the switch altogether. You can also tighten or loosen the brake wires to troubleshoot the bike.

However, if none of that works, it’s better to get new braking discs, wires, and cables.

4. Electric Bikes Having Battery Issues

Batteries in e-bikes are highly susceptible to damage. Most issues have the root cause lying within the batteries. And these occur due to improper use of electric bikes. This can also happen due to minor and unnoticeable accidents during a vehicle wash.

The battery terminals could be damaged or even disconnected one way or another. A few more errors such as dried up batteries, leaving the e-bikes on, and not recharging enough could drain the batteries ultimately.

Before spending an arm and a leg on changing or replacing the battery, it’s a recommendation by experts to inspect the battery’s health properly. Utilizing a multi-meter or even acquiring professional help might save the battery from its untimely demise.

5. E-Bikes With A Persistent Motor Noise

When there’s an issue with the motor’s bearings, disk brakes, or gears, you will notice a sudden whirring sound in the vehicle. Generally, the problem could be a mere loose bolt; other times, it could be worn-out integral parts within the motor.

One way to solve this issue is to replace the region which has been causing the trouble. Other than that, if there’s no apparent damage in the mentioned parts, you can try lubricating the motor bearings to lessen the friction and noise.

On the other hand, if the problem persists, you might want to look into the spinning section of the motor. If it stops functioning, the issue is undoubtedly within the controller, which will need a replacement.

6. Electric Bikes’ Handlebars Damage

Sometimes, the handlebars are the first part of an e-bike to get damaged after an incident. This happens when it absorbs a strain, causing faulty braking performance or keeping them consistently engaged, resulting in the inhibitor motor switch switching on.

To ensure further smooth rides, you must replace your electric bike’s brake levers. It is also advised not to attempt the replacement on your own at home as it demands expert hands and skill.

7. E-Bikes Enduring Stress And Vibrations

Generally, normal vibrations and stress are welcomed in e-bikes unless they reach extreme heights. However, when the e-bike faces these vibrations and pressure constantly over a long period of time, some of the connections may get loose.

This might even make the e-bike inoperable at times. Therefore, before driving, users should review the external wiring systems of the electric bike within set intervals.

Failing to maintain the e-bike’s health and wellbeing in this manner might ultimately lead to replacing a few parts frequently or even having to purchase a new e-bike for safety reasons.

General Pro And Cons of Electric Bikes:

The Pros:

  • E-bikes Improve Fitness

The effort needed to move is much less, but you’ll still remain in a healthy state due to turning the paddles and exerting energy.

  • Smoother Up-hill Terrains

  • Faster Rides

E-bikes are faster than the traditional ones regardless of your weight. It lets you keep up with quicker acceleration even when you’re traveling uphill.

  • Decreased Sweat

Since you need to exert lower force and energy, your rides will be much cooler, all thanks to the motor on e-bikes!
